Smith Happenings

I’ve been wrapped up in school, three classes going right now- two moderate classes that require papers, and the heavy duty class, pathophysiology, that requires a lot more studying and tests. I love the topics, although I’m still adjusting to the new pace! I am still taking time to supervise the house projects, the tile in the foyer was finished on Wednesday and its beautiful!

New tile in the foyer!

Will has been working on house projects, both inside and out- he took old furniture to the recycling center, he’s done a ton of touch-up painting on the trim and the stair risers, got the foyer ready for tile, and all sorts of other items on his honey-do list! I gave him an iPad for a graduation gift, and I like to tell him that he could quite possibly add Mad skills in Angry Birds to his resume. :-)

Way better than a textbook...

The boys have been spending a lot of quality time on the couches, its been so hot that they don’t like being outside- although the boys went out and stood in their empty kiddie pool the other day, giving a hint that the heat would be more tolerable after a dip in their pool!

Happy summer! :-)

Summer Heat

We’ve been roasting in truly unbelievable weather for Minnesota, 98 with high humidity and not a cloud in the sky! Will says it reminds him of Mississippi… :-)

Happy 4th!

You knew it was coming didn’t you… :-)

We’re having a quiet and relaxing 4th of July, with the exception of the neighborhood fireworks setting off the dog alarms quite regularly. This weekend has been all about yardwork and relaxing, and dog baths! :-)

A Weekend in Pictures

I grew catnip in our little herb garden, and gave Gracie a few leaves to play with. She promptly ate them, and then threw up on the rug. Will says I'm not allowed to play with the cat anymore.

We are maintaining our usual track record of killing at least a few plants every season, and this lovely hanging basket was the first garden casualty of the year.

The Landscape Assistants! The boys have had a blast being outside with us in the evenings and on the weekends- and the highlight has been the pool and the sprinkler. Who would have thought $12 of lawn and garden implements could be so much fun?

You mean it won't be summer forever?

Yard Progress

We’ve been taking advantage of some beautiful weather over the last couple of weeks to work on the back yard. Sometimes we look at the yard and think we haven’t gotten much done, but the before/after pictures are pretty awesome!

Junk Eradication Weekend

We decided to dedicate the entire holiday weekend to ridding our garage, shed and yard of anything extraneous or unneeded. We both took Friday off, so today was Day #2 of Junk Eradication Weekend.

Will taking a break...and Max waiting for Brewer to quit splashing in the pool...

Enter a 20 yard dumpster, add a whole lot of manual labor, some sunburn…and now the garage feels empty, the dumpster is full and the yard has been thinned, significantly.

The dumpster, 70% capacity...just from the garage!

The only redeeming part of all this labor is it felt so good to get rid of the junk! Good thing its a low rate per ton… :-)

Brewer in the pool...he likes to attack the spray from the hose, which wigs Max out...

More pictures of the yard to come after Day #3… :-)
